WHO RUNS THE HELPLINE?

This Helpline is run by Nexus NI who have been offering counselling services to survivors of Sexual Abuse for 35 years.  We are registered with the Information Commissioners Office Reg. No. Z3266690 and are legally obliged to look after your information and be very clear what we will do with that information.  If you want any clarification or more information, contact our data protection officer on data@nexusni.org.

WHY DO WE KEEP INFORMATION?

We keep only the information we need to be able to help and support anyone who rings into our service.  Having your mobile number means we can ring you back with more information or send you details by text or email.  If you wish you can hide your phone number.

By contacting the Helpline we keep this basic information as we need it to provide the best service to you.

We may ask you some questions about your ethnic orgin, gender, the health trust you live in.  This information is used to help us ensure that we are reaching a wide range of users and this information will not be stored in a way that can ever be linked to you.

We will ask for your consent before sending your information to another organisation ie Womens Aid or Nexus NI for more help.

We keep information for our funders and to help us improve our services but this information does not have any details that could identify you.

WHAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION?

Personal information is anything that would allow us to identify you in some way, like your name, email, address or phone number.  Whenever you communicate with the Helpline it is confidential. But sometimes we might need to give information about you to someone else. We may do this if:

  • you ask us to
  • we believe your life or someone else’s life is in danger
  • you’re being hurt by someone
  • you want referred to another organisation for help.
  • You tell us about a serious crime
  • A court orders us to release information

You can phone us and hide your number if you wish.  Your email address is not visible to us if you contact us by email.

KEEPING YOUR RECORDS & INFORMATION SAFE

We respect your privacy and will keep your information safe and secure using a software system recommended by the Helpline Partnership.  All our staff have been trained and security checked.  

CAN I HAVE A COPY OF MY RECORDS?

We may be able to give you copies of your records, as long as we can get enough information to identify you.  We keep very few records unless we are concerned about your safety or risk to another person.  You need to request a copy of your records in writing to Helpline Manager, Nexus NI, 119 University Street, Belfast, BT7 1HP.

We also use our database to collect anonymous statistical information to help us improve our service and to raise funds to develop services. 

LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES

The Helpline website includes links to other sites that Nexus NI doesn’t own or manage. We do our best to make sure these links are safe but we can’t control how the sites collect information or what they do with it.
